From 1972 to 2007, Girls Inc. Limestone delivered the popular Big and Little Sister
Match Program to the greater Kingston Community. Along with a number of other
organizational changes necessary to strengthen our position as a single-gendered
service agency, we’ve updated and re-named this program.

Friends for Life Program
Mentored girls will benefit from the personal guidance, helpful influence, and above all,
the friendship of a mature and caring woman. Each pair is closely monitored by a staff
caseworker and is intended to be a very long-term friendship. The pairing of a Girls Inc.
Girl and her Mentor is the beginning of a very special, long-term friendship. Their
friendship will last at least two years and most often from five to seven years. Many Girls
Inc. ONE-to-one pairs will become friends for life!

Friend for a Day Program
The Friend for a Day Program is a short-term matching program where female
volunteers are are paired with girls for single outings. Although girls awaiting a long-term
match participate, many girls participate in only this program, combined withour girls
group activities.

Girls Inc. Mentors
Girls Inc. Friends for Life and Friend for a Day volunteer mentors are at least 19 years of
age and want to make a difference in a young girl's life. Often women in their 30s, 40s,
50s and beyond sign up and become amazing mentors! Friends for Life Mentors commit
four hours weekly for at least two years. Friend for a Day volunteers do not need to
commit for a specific amount of time as they participate when their schedule allows.

How to Sign Up to be a Mentor
All Mentors must participate in an extensive screening and training process. For more
information on becoming a mentor, or to book an application appointment with agency
staff, please call our office at (613) 542-9202 or send an email to

Girls Inc. Girls
Girls Inc. Girls are between the ages of 8 and 16 and come from a wide variety of family
situations. The level of support that would best benefit an applicant girl is assessed on an
individual basis. This allows the agency to provide a support plan that best meets her
unique needs. Girls paired in the “Friends for Life” program also participate in many
other agency programs and services.
